Schall meets REALITY day 9

Wow.. I can't believe it has been 6 days since I last posted! Well, I will try harder to make sure I take out some time each day..even if it is only to publish what I eat without any commentary.

So day 9, all raw up until the end of the evening. I WANTED that full feeling in my tummy. This is the hardest part of eating only raw for so many people - how light it is. It is very hard to get used to!

The other reason it is hard to eat 100% raw is because most of us don't believe that it has to be an all or nothing deal. Once I attended Living Light Culinary Arts school, I realized that I wasn't going to be dogmatic about the diet. I am not that way about anything else in my life either. Prior to Living Light I was always wanting to be 100% raw. But when I saw Cherie Soria (60 years old at the time) so fit and healthy, her husband Dan, so fit and healthy, Jenny Cornbleet so fit and healthy, and they simply said "We don't eat 100% raw". I realized the reality of it then.

Like I said in an earlier post - the only reason I am doing this now is to detox in a natural way. I don't feel the "pressure" to be 100% raw anymore and I don't urge others to it anymore either. My personal mission is to get all of us eating more fruits and vegetables and to begin the process of cutting out the crap foods.

Matt Monarch who is 100% raw points out that raw fooders are dying in their 80's and 90's just like people who are eating healthier versions of cooked foods.

I am glad that you have the opportunity to see me go through this AS I AM DOING IT, I think it makes the process more real than than if I was to talk about processes that have already happened.

So I gave into the cravings about day 9 ate 100% raw on day 10 ate more raw food on day 11 mostly raw on day 12 but about half and half until today (day 14 and I'm still raw today)

These days I believe that it isn't really about cooked vs raw ... because steamed broccoli has a completely different value than french fries (or a latte with pumpkin bread - NOPE I didn't have latte or pumpkin bread!)

So I ate some cooked food that wasn't on my NO list and I ate some that WAS on my NO list. Again, it's a process folks. I want to be raw right now to detox the processed foods out that I had re-introduced. My goal as I talked about in an earlier post is to cut out completely the processed carbohydrates, refined sugar (not a real issue for me anyway), and dairy. I want to extremely limit oils and fish. That will leave me with a really healthy diet especially since most of it will be raw.

One of the success principles that I have been taught is to shoot for the moon and if you fall short you will still most likely land higher than if you just shoot for the mountaintops. That principle applies here. Shoot for raw vegan and you will eat much better overall most of the time.

Finally this post is your "Get out of guilt FREE" pass. If you are like me, you just want to be healthy and live a long, productive, and active life. There are a lot of ways to get there! If you eat something that you know makes you feel bad or that you know over time will damage your body, start over... day by day, hour by hour, minute by minute.

For my dogmatic friends out there ...... I am on a different path but I'll walk with you anyway!

Schall 100% Raw - Day 7

Feeling GREAT!

Those processed carbohydrates really are like glue. Now that I am eating so clean I can really feel the difference. It's like I teach in class - it is very subtle how good you can feel and you can really take it for granted (GUILTY!!) the opposite is also true - you can be feeling unhealthy without paying attention to it.

I feel like I need to clarify some things here because of an email I received yesterday. First of all I gained 12 pounds on my latte and pumpkin loaf kick (it lasted for a few months). Most people would have looked at me and seen a HEALTHY person. So it comes back to why I started this in the first place. I want VIBRANT HEALTH. I want the kind of health where I can go all day and night without feeling fatigued. The kind of health where you feel strong and alive. The kind of health where you can literally feel the energy of your own body. Where you know you will be living a long healthy full life. I have experienced those things in the past and the food I ate recently took it away.

I know enough now to realize that a person doesn't need to eat 100% raw to experience that kind of health or longevity. It isn't really about cooked vs raw for me anymore. For example: french fries vs steamed broccoli or pizza vs steamed quinoa are completely different values.

What I have learned to avoid are:
Processed carbohydrates
refined sugars
oils
Dairy (perhaps raw goat products in moderation would be a good substitute - goat milk more closely resembles human milk)
Unnatural meats (wild fish in moderation again would be acceptable - I do believe that humans are meant to eat some flesh - but in these times that decision has to be tempered with ethics.)

So with that I will get back to what I am eating on my detox diet of 100% raw foods:
Yesterday the 7th I ate:
16 oz dark green juice with apple, lot's of kale, celery, and lime
3 cups fruit salad with banana, orange, avocado, apple cobbler, almond milk
16 oz cashew hemp cacao milk
16 oz bottled water (was at a night club)
I was hungry but it was the kind of hunger you can enjoy a little because you know you are giving your body a rest.

Let's give this a little perspective:
I ate the nutrition of:
kale
Celery
apple
Lime
banana
orange
avocado
almonds
hemp seeds
cashews
cacao

That's 11 different plant foods in one day. If I had remembered to take my Juice Plus it would have been upped by nearly 20 more!

Variety is REALLY important here!

Schall 100% Raw - Day 6

Here is what I ate yesterday on the 6th:

16 oz green juice with apple, celery, lime, and water
12 oz Cashew Choc shake with banana slices
Salad - (about 4 cups loosely packed) it consisted of red leaf lettuce, and some red and green cabbage that I chopped finely - tahini dressing
12 oz oj
juice plus with 6 oz water www.rawfoodjuiceplus.com
3 bell pepper tortilla chips with some spicy nacho cheese dip (these are taught in the advanced raw workshop and yeah they are good..)
Salad - see above but used toasted sesame dressing this time
12 oz oj

I am under 125 now...

Feel great today! It is really clearing some things up for me and it feels good to break that cycle of addiction to punkin' loaf! Man that stuff grabbed me really good! Too bad it was BAAAADDDDD!!

I have created a weekly class for eating an all raw day - it will include recipes, shopping list, tips, calories, and resources etc for eating raw for a whole day. And for those who really don't want to eat all raw it will have alternatives that can be added to the raw dishes or substituted. For anyone who can't make the classes I am doing a monthly subscription for the weekly recipes (each week includes a full day of recipes) check it out on the website www.voddeli.com

Create an awesome day!
Love ya!

Schall 100% Raw - Day 5

I didn't feel much like eating yesterday...got really busy!

Started the day with about 14 oz of juice - 3 apples, 4 stalks celery, 1/2 lime and some water
Juice plus in water www.rawfoodjuiceplus.com
Had another cashew chocolate milk with banana slices
12 oz oj with banana slices
Made a big fruit salad with apple, mango, strawberry, banana, avocado, orange, some vodobbler, and some almond milk. I ate about 3 1/2 cups of the stuff. It was really good -- really really good! I think the avocado is a great way to offset the sweet.

I have started posting what I eat on the following day so that I get everything listed in one post.

Had a bit of a headache this morning but it cleared up with liquids (will post it all for you tomorrow)

Now I am in super creative mode..can't wait to share this idea with all of you when I get it all worked out.

Many of you have sent encouraging emails about me "getting back on track" etc. first of all...THANKS!!! and I send lot's of encouragement for you to get your diet in a comfortable place. I also want to share that I am doing this simply because raw foods are detoxing and it will break the cycle of addiction to the darn pumpkin loaf (my mind keeps trying to think of something raw that will offer that texture and taste).

I am in the process of re-designing my diet and it won't be 100% raw a 100% of the time. It just won't include any processed carbohydrates, refined sugar, or dairy. I may eat wild fish once a week... not sure. Most of the food I want to eat will be raw produce. I may include some rice and legumes, and baked or steamed sweet potatoes. I have come to realize over the years that it isn't just raw vs cooked - it is that much of the cooked food we choose is over processed junk that has a negative value and that we just don't eat enough fruits and vegetables.

Eating enough fruits and vegetables is hard to accomplish, 7-13 servings in one day! Plus even when we eat organic it wasn't allowed to ripen for full potency. Our food delivery system is in a bit of a mess.

Still losing weight. But, darn that pooch on my tummy! See what processed carbs, refined sugar, and dairy will do......and very quickly.

I also realized that my thoughts played a big part. As soon as I started to gain some weight I began to verbalize that I was getting "fat" kept saying it aloud to Dave and complaining about it (hmmm....still took a while to STOP EATING THE JUNK) the funny thing is that years ago when I was 40 pounds overweight, as soon as ZI started to lose some weight I was verbalizing that "I LOVE BEING SKINNY" and even as I would say it I knew intellectually that I wasn't yet "skinny". the sentiment was there and I lost weight very fast.

I know that my battle with weight in my 30's and early 40's was very minor compared to what others have gone through, but I also feel that I was lucky to discover raw foods - BEFORE it got way out of hand.

I know some of you are struggling with weight right now and I want to share some things I found online today: www.gabrielmethod.com - I am going to purchase it and see what it is about, it looks like he handles the thought and emotional processes around food. Also there is a book out called "The end of overeating" written by a previous FDA Doctor. There is an interview with him on www.huffingtonpost.com that you can look up. Again, he talks about the mind and brain and what happens around food.

today was a good day...still raw and will post my day 6 food tomorrow.

Create a FABULOUS night

Schall 100% Raw - Day 4

Wheewww!!
I nearly didn't make it yesterday! In fact I had decided twice to go and get some hot vegan soup. I really wanted something hearty. It passed both times and here is what I am doing to get through those moments.

First, don't let your mind think about it... change the subject immediately when you start thinking about something you want to eat that isn't on your list of healthy foods.

Second, the truth is that it is not just that you are hungry. If you were just trying to satisfy some hunger anything would do. No, it is more about the foods that intrigue us and offer a certain experience. So if you feel that you ONLY WANT THAT...then it isn't even true hunger. Drink some water, juice, a smoothie, a salad etc and it will pass when you actually satisfy your bodies need for food.

Keep snacking on raw foods throughout the day to keep the cravings at bay in the first place.

I am trying to locate my actual sheet from yesterday - I'll start using my planner. will post the exact food when I find it!!! It was a lot of OJ, Cashew Choc Milk, Bananas, Green Smoothie and Salad.

I am feeling better already .... here is why:
Breathing better..less congestion
losing weight - like it is already melting off of me... which tells me I was made of gunk!

I am also detoxing some emotions though....whew I was cranky yesterday!! (no one apparently noticed so I did a good job of keeping it to myself) I am a very pleasant happy person (which people do notice) and my husband is always saying "How can you be so happy ALL the time!" which means he wonders why when things don't go right I am almost unaffected.....

I like to be happy!

Schall 100% - Day 2

I slept so much better last night than I have been sleeping!

Worked most of the day and didn't have time to eat much. Feel really good though. Here is what I had and it was sooooo good!

Big fruit bowl:
2 small oranges
1 banana
large half of an avocado
1/2 mango
1/4 cup apple cobbler filling (from Vod)
2 TB apple cobbler topping (pecans, raisins, cinnamon)
3 cups almond milk

the fruits were all diced and then everything was put in the bowl together.

Really....it was GOOOOOD!

14 oz of cacao cashew milk with a banana sliced in it.

Yeah... I got my sweet on today.... Greens tomorrow!

Remember to always look at the day before, I will update what I ate if anything after I post each night.

UPDATED: got hungry before bed so I made guacamole from one avocado and two cloves minced garlic added a touch of sea salt. Ate about half of it with three bell pepper tortilla chips (raw and dehydrated) I teach the recipe in the advanced class www.voddeli.com/calendar.html
Have a GREAT NIGHT EVERYONE!
